Wireless Ad-Hoc and Sensor Netowork Laboratory

The Wireless Sensor Networks Research Laboratory (WASN Lab) at University of Colombo School of Computing(UCSC) has conducted research covering various aspects of mobile wireless sensor networks. At present, the WASN Lab is at a stage of its evolution in which it has been able to secure high donor confidence as evidenced by no less than 5 simultaneous foreign funded projects underway since 2005. WASN Lab has been a pioneer in cooperating with Internet Society (ISOC), Swedish Agency for International Development Cooperation (Sida)/The Department for Research Cooperation (SAREC), The Swedish Program for Information and Communication Technology in Developing Regions (Spider) and Information Society Innovation Fund (ISIF) in the area of computer science by establishing several interesting ICT research projects. These projects are considered to be the benchmarks of such projects in the world.
Vehicular sensor networks which is called BusNet was our big success which received wide international acceptance. The research conducted to resolve local elephant and human conflict opened more paths for contributing with applications of sensor networks. Porting Contiki OS for MICAz motes was a another contribution made by WASN research team to the open source community. WASN Lab has also implemented database layer called TikiriDB for Contiki OS with proper security measurements.
The bond between Swedish Institute of Computer Science (SICS) and WASN Lab is building continuously and steadily towards more innovative research. The collaborative research with Ericsson AB and SICS has lifted the laboratory up to the international standards with excellent inventions and contributions.
